How to determine bathroom vanity light sizes

How to determine bathroom vanity light sizes

  1. Measure Your Vanity Width
  • Single-Sink Vanities: For vanities that are 24-36 inches wide, choose a vanity light that’s about 75-80% of the vanity width. This typically means a light around 20-28 inches wide.
  • Double-Sink Vanities: For larger vanities (48 inches or wider), you can either center one long fixture (36-48 inches wide) or place two smaller fixtures (one above each sink).
  1. Consider Light Placement
  • Above the Mirror: For lights mounted above, aim for a fixture that's 2-4 inches narrower than the mirror width, so the light is balanced and doesn’t overpower the mirror.
  • Beside the Mirror: If you prefer sconces or vertical fixtures on each side, they should each be about 1/3 of the mirror’s height for even light distribution.
  1. Height Matters!
  • Install lights about 75-80 inches from the floor to ensure they’re high enough to spread light evenly.
  • Sconces should be installed at about eye level (around 65-70 inches from the floor), with around 28-30 inches between them for the best lighting coverage.
  1. Match Style with Scale
  • Large, dramatic mirrors pair well with longer, more elegant fixtures. For smaller mirrors, compact vanity lights or chic sconces create balance and keep the space feeling open.
  1. Brightness and Wattage
  • For ideal brightness, aim for 75-100 watts of combined power (or equivalent in LED lumens) per sink area.

By following these steps, you'll have a vanity light that complements your space in size, style, and brightness, making your bathroom both beautiful and functional!
